Your Feelings Matter
Horace Publishing is a growing independent publisher in the self-help genre that aims to put the voice and the experience of individuals at the heart of every publication. This starts with our unique Counselling Cards, designed especially for adults to help with the communication of emotions in a wide variety of situations.
In order to engage in a meaningful conversation at work, at home, or with a therapist, a clear description of how something makes us feel can help us find a solution. However, it is incredibly difficult for many of us to describe what is going on inside. We may feel pressured by society to appear as if we are coping, and there is an expectation that we can control and articulate our emotions, but in reality, many of us are simply 'treading water', not coping at all, or cannot explain how we feel. The colourful pictures on our Original Counselling Cards are designed to reach straight to the heart of the user to support that much needed 'breakthrough' moment of finding the right word for the right feeling to start a much-needed conversation. In conjunction with our exclusive Spread Mat, the deck also enables users to understand their emotional journey by tracking its development and revealing where any feelings may have originated from.

A staggering 65% of adults are considered to be visual learners. This means they prefer to use visual aids and prompts such as diagrams, charts and images to understand and retain information.
The self-help genre contains a number of titles written by MD or PhD experts who provide professional perspectives on trauma, grief, distrust, shyness, sensitivity, anger, neuro-diversity, and depression. These publications can be helpful in an instructional way and can offer coping strategies, but the reader may still feel alone without other sufferers to relate to. There is a high degree of separation between an expert and a patient, and mental health issues can be particularly isolating if we can't even describe how we are feeling to a friend, a partner, or therapist. As a publisher, we think that a much larger platform should be given to the first-hand perspectives of sufferers and how they feel. Horace Publishing wishes to place your real-world experiences at the heart of its titles.
Collating the personal accounts of sufferers into books is difficult, but it is not impossible. Human beings are teaching tools who can learn from each other, and we can guide professional practice with our experiences. There is kinship in sharing stories, and there is a comforting familiarity in hearing that our problems are shared by many others. Your feelings and experiences matter, and we want to hear about them.
